On the afternoon of September 3, 2024, Brooke Spelman, Consul of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, and her delegation visited the Johns Hopkins University–Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies (hereinafter referred to as the "HNC"). The delegation of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai was received by Chinese Co-Director Li Xiaorong, American Co-Director Adam K Webb, Deputy American Co-Director John Urban, and Deputy Director for Administrative Affairs Shen Zhiping. The delegation visited the campus, library and various teaching facilities of HNC, followed by a discussion in Room A106 of the East Building of HNC.
The Co-Directors welcomed the delegation of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai and briefly introduced the history of HNC, the programs, enrollment and employment, and education mode.
Consul Brooke Spelman introduced her experience and insights in diplomatic work, and spoke highly of the academic status and international influence of HNC. She said that HNC has worked as a bridge between China and the United States in people-to-people exchange, and it has accumulated rich experience in cultivating international diplomatic talents, which is of great significance to China-US relations. The two sides are willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation.
After the meeting, the delegation also visited the Pearl S. Buck Memorial Hall on the Gulou Campus and the Richard Brettell’s Memorial Reading Room.
